Colour Blocking

I recently got involved in the vast world of photography and decided that it would only be fit that I develop all my own content for my website and social media pages. This colour blocking shoot has given me so much joy and being able to look back at it now fills me with immense pride and I cannot help going back to the folder on my desktop and peeping at the beautiful images over and over again.

I have been obsessed with colour from an early age. The beautiful landscapes of my youth in the Eastern Free State has probably got a lot to do with it. In my years as a dancer and performer I learned first hand the enigmatic power of colour and light on the stage. How it can transform a mood, tell a story and eventually become its own character.

Colour psychology is the study of hues as a determinant of human behavior. Colour influences perceptions that are not obvious, such as the taste of food. Colours can also enhance the effectiveness of placebos. For example, red or orange pills are generally used as stimulants and colour can indeed influence a person.

Colour psychology is also widely used in marketing and branding. Many marketers see colour as an important part of marketing because colour can be used to influence consumers’ emotions and perceptions of goods and services. Companies also use colour when deciding on brand logos. These logos seem to attract more customers when the colour of the brand logo matches the personality of the goods or services, such as the colour pink being heavily used on Victoria’s Secret branding. Colours are also important for window displays in stores. Research shows that warm colors tended to attract spontaneous purchasers, despite cooler colors being more favourable.

So it was inevitable that when it came to the designing of this new website that colour was going to play a very important roll. We spent hours pouring over the exact Pantone colours which we were going to use, how it made us feel and the particular message that it conveys and how it helping me tell my story.

So whenever you feel touched or intrigued by the use of colour whether it be conscious or subconsciously know that it is there for a reason, telling a story, another character in my play.

We hope you enjoy my expression of vibrant story telling.
